Circulation of the water is the first of the 5 Keys to pool care. Without proper circulation your pool will be difficult to maintain and you will never achieve the best possible water quality.

Good circulation will ensure the proper distribution of water throughout the pool. Watch out for dead spots, areas of poor circulation - corners or behind pool steps for example, and take care of these when brushing or vacuuming.

Circulation tips

Run your filter pump for a minimum of 8-hours a day, 7-days a week, the longer you run your pump the better the water quality you will achieve. Ensure the inlets that return the filtered water to the pool are pointing down towards the floor at an angle of 30° - 45°. Inlets pointed toward the surface create a nice ripple effect but are not good for circulation. Keep your pump and skimmer strainer baskets free of debris by regular checks and emptying and cleaning as required. Backwash your filter once a week, as debris is collected by the filter the pressure within the tank builds up and flow diminishes. Backwashing the filter will remove the debris collected in the sand and as a consequence improve the circulation.
